3 tips to keep your electric bills under control

Electric bills seem to increase each and every month and this can be hard on a home owner’s pocketbook. It is important for home owners to try and keep their electric bills down so they can afford other bills in the home. There are several options that home owners can take to keep their utility bills down. Simple steps can be taken to cut down on costs but keep your home cool or warm, depending on the season. Consider the tips below to help keep your electric bills under control.

HVAC Inspection
One option is to have your HVAC inspected. It is important to make sure that your heating and cooling system is working properly. If your unit is working improperly, this can cause your unit to work overtime, which can increase your utility bill. Have a technician inspect your unit to ensure that the unit is working well so your bills will continue to run on the low end.

Size
It is also important to consider the size of your home as well as the size of your heating or cooling unit. You can cut down on electric bills by using small units to cool or heat the & living areas of your home. You can cut off your main unit and use these small systems to save money on your utility bill throughout the year.

Cleaning
Another way to lower your electric bill is to clean your unit on a regular basis. The unit should have the filters changed on a regular basis. The unit should also have a full cleaning at least once a year so dirt, debris, dust and other items are removed, which will increase the energy efficiency of your unit. Home owners can choose to clean the unit themselves or hire a professional to handle the cleaning process.

Programmable Thermostat
Another option to save money is to use a programmable thermostat. This option will allow you to set the temperature in the home, even when you are away. You can set the temperature to a lower setting while you are away and the unit can then be set to turn on right before you arrive home. This will give you a comfortable environment when you arrive home but keep your cooling and heating cost down. If you do not already have a programmable thermostat, a new one can be installed easily.
Any of these steps will allow you to lower your electric bill. Home owners can choose to try just one step to lower their utility bill or choose to try all of the steps to save money with heating and cooling of the home. A few changes can save you a great deal of money each and every month!
